Le désespoir du singe

Born in 1988, Claire Nicolet lives and works in Paris, the area of her urban wanderings. She graduated from the “École Estienne” in graphic design and engraving, then from the “Beaux-Arts de Paris” (Jean-Michel Alberola’s studio). Since then, she has developed a practice at the meeting point of drawing, painting, comics, sculpture and installation.

In her colourful universe, she travels among the urban curiosities she encounters during her musical walks along the streets of the capital. From her contemplations, she brings out the poetry of an architecture, a space, objects… From the well-known city, she collects the elements that usually escape the eye to give them a new value, in a fusional relationship that she maintains with the landscape, whether it is built or natural.

A juxtaposition of volumes, shapes and perspectives, her works silently open up to the possibilities of a passage, of a narrative in progress. Memories of an autofiction? Behind the allure of Asian prints, his works offer us the exploration of a time frozen in the eternal present…

Piscine végétale rose – Marie Vandooren

Whether through photography, painting, silk screening or installations, Marie Vandooren questions urban space and the relationship we have with these daily constraints. In addition to her artistic research, she encountered these issues as a social worker with homeless people. Thus, she examined public space as a reflection of global urban planning intentions, often devoid of local particularism.

She feels some attraction for this material, but at the same time, a refusal for it function. So, she makes urban space looses its primary function by taking bits of architecture out of their context to turn them into autonomous objects. The artist becomes a portraitist of these insignificant details, relieved from their original weight, or an architect of an intimate world as are all children, future nostalgic adults.

Playing with scales and proportions, she creates a particular space that hosts inexpressive characters. They are reflections of the boredom of our modern uniform societies. From there, she tackles the worries of functioning as well as the contradiction that occupy our cities, hosts of absurd societies in which humans have difficulty to conform themselves to a role and a place that have been reserved for them.

Sans Titre 2 – Fabien Granet

Fabien Granet lives and works in Paris, although he extracts most of his designs from the Brittany landscapes. From this raw material, offered by the infinite realities of nature, he draws his questions on the construction of the landscape.

The latter is the human definition of our environment, induced by the limits of our perception. Therefore, humans consider landscape as a fragmentation, which they restore in the framework of a “window open to the world”. The artist transforms the fragments captured in reality, to rearrange them into a drawing. He mixes pattern and geometric structure to offer a reading of the finished work in terms of its framework.

In this mirage, reality is not so much written as reconstructed. A poetry springs from it, scandalized by worrying geometric forms, black or white. They are offered to the spectator as a space of freedom of interpretation, according to his personal experience. These forms offer a multiple reality, impermanent, in an exploration of timelessness. which also underlies the work of video of the artist, carried out with the liking of moving sketches, seized on the live. Which slide in an infinite horizon…
